So, you've read our About Us page, and want to know a little more? Well, grab a cuppa, here we go...
We are Claire (who established the business, mum of 2 daughters) and Ellie (who came to help wrap orders in 2011, forgot to leave, mum of a son and daughter). We met through ante-natal classes, we drink a lot of tea and will never say no to a custard-cream.
When Claire first started Yellow Lolly it was for all the classic reasons: Returning to her sales job with it's long hours and mega-bucks targets seemed impossible with a small baby. Also it was really hard to find fun, colourful kid's clothes on the UK high street. Scandinavian childrenswear, with it's bright colours, organic fabrics and unisex styles was far more exciting, as was the world of online retail, and so the idea for Yellow Lolly was born.
Since then the whole children's clothing market has changed: the Scandinavian style has filtered through to the high street, bringing more stripes and colour, but so too has the massive push towards Pink/Blue marketing for babies and children. We dislike the whole pink/Blue thing, passionately. We try to stock a variety of clothes that are non-gendered, and we don't list clothes by Boy or Girl. We believe that good quality, fun, stylish children's clothes should be able to be passed on and worn again. We love brands who use organic fabrics and who put sustainability at the heart of their businesses. Our own kids wear the brands we stock because we really love the stuff we sell.
Using our design and retail experience (Claire sold beautiful Scandinavian furniture, Ellie worked in fashion, as a print and embroidery designer) we make a boutique Lolly Edit from the children's fashion collections each season. Our mix of brands changes every 6 months as we only order collections that we really like, not just ones that we've stocked in the past. We love to get your feedback, too. Please tell us what you like, labels you've spotted that you think we should check out, or a brand we should get back in.
Our current selection includes labels from Britain (Beau Loves, Indikidual, Norfolk, A Mini Penny), Spain (Bobo Choses, Nadadelazos, Tinycottons, Picnik Barcelona), Sweden (Mini Rodini), Denmark (AlbaBaby, Molo, Popupshop, Bangbangcopenhagen), America (Modern Burlap), Australia (Huxbaby), Israel (Nununu), Finland (Papu), Germany (Noe & Zoe), and Portugal (Wolf and Rita).
